During an economic recession, the retail industry has taken a big hit as customers simply don't have as much discretionary income as they used to. Whether your shoe store is part of a large chain or is just a small independent retailer, you should always be on the lookout for new, interesting marketing ideas that can stimulate business. Here are some great ways to put your best foot forward. 

1.   In-store events- Customers need to know the benefits of your shoes, be it that they are edgy and fashionable or that they provide a comfortable walking experience. Hosting an in-store event like a fashion show or a teaching session will not only generate buzz and awareness for your store, but also sell a lot of shoes! Have your featured products fully-visible using a vertical banner or even a window cling so customers know which shoes they're going to learn about.

2.   Loyalty cards- Most women have a shoe fetish, so create a loyalty program that keeps her coming back for more shoes. This could be a punch card or you could even use a computer-tracking system. After a certain amount of pairs purchased, your customer will receive a free (or at least discounted) pair. Not only do you sell more shoes, but you also retain loyal customers.

3.   Shoe care- A great way to make your store more marketable is by offering shoe care services such as shining, stretching, and even minor repair. If you really want to offer a first-class experience, offer complimentary shoe repair services. You probably won't be able to do this in-store, but set-up an agreement with a local shoe hospital or cobbler. Your client will appreciate the VIP treatment, and this ensures they'll visit your store at least twice (once to drop off the shoes and again to pick them up). Odds are they'll find a new pair in at least one of those visits. Display vinyl decals at your cash wraps letting customers know these special services you offer, and make sure your sales team is mentioning it as well.

4.   Sponsorship/donation- Sponsoring local events is a great way to build a positive business reputation. In exchange, you're usually able to advertise at these events with a vinyl banner or in the program. Another unique idea is to create a shoe-donation program. Work with charity groups such as the Salvation Army to donate a pair of shoes for every X amount you sell. This is a huge PR boost and makes your business socially-responsible. It has certainly worked for TOMS.

5.   Family bundles- If you are a shoe store that caters to all customers (men, women, and children), create a family bundle package. Offer a special discount when customers buy a pair of shoes for every member of the family, or even have a buy one-get one special. You're a one-stop shop for the family, but it may take a special deal for customers to realize that.

The heels of the shoes even have superb cushion, and this is what makes these shoes extremely functional. These are my favorite walking shoes and I highly recommend a pair to anyone who is having trouble finding a great pair of comfortable walking shoes that will last for a very long time.

Recently, I decided that I needed to lose a few pounds in order for me to get healthier. I have never really been big on exercising, but I knew I would have to include some form of exercise in my weight loss plan in order to get the best results possible. Since I lack any real athletic bone in my body, the only option I really had was to take up walking.

I knew I needed a really great and comfortable pair of walking shoes, and the pair of Reeboks that I purchased were not comfortable after thirty minutes of walking. I did a little research on the internet and found a really cool looking pair of Mephisto shoes. After a few business days, I finally got my new pair of Mephisto shoes. I could hardly wait to throw my very useless pair of Reeboks in the trash and go for my first walk in them.

One of the most important things that I needed from my new walking shoes was comfort. When I stepped into these shoes for the very first time, I was instantly impressed with how comfortable they really are. The cushioning in the shoe is very impressive and it kept my feet comfortable for my entire walk around my neighborhood. My walk is usually about two hours long, so I was really amazed that my feet stayed comfortable the entire time.

One of the reasons I hated my Reeboks was because they really made the heels of my feet extremely sore. But with these Mephisto shoes, you can really feel the cushion in the heel of the shoes. These shoes are also great because they are not too bulky for my feet. I have noticed that a lot of walking shoes are just a bit too heavy for my liking. These were nice and light, and extremely easy to walk in. I also really like the overall look and style of my Mephisto shoes. I think they are quite trendy and I get loads of compliments when I wear them too.

These shoes are a lot more comfortable than they look. I got my first pair of Mephisto shoes in brown and then decided to get a black pair as well just for a little more variety. I highly recommend a nice pair of Mephisto shoes to anyone who is in search for a great pair of walking shoes. These shoes are made of the highest quality and they also seem to last for a long time as well. I have been wearing my Mephisto shoes for the last couple of years for all of my walks in a multitude of weather and conditions, and they still look and work great as if I just bought them.

I can't say I was thrilled with the price and I will admit you will pay a little more than you would like for a pair, but the quality of these shoes is totally worth it. After you get your first pair of these great shoes, you will find it hard to go back to those horrible sneakers.

DVS is one of my favourite skate shoe brands. And not just because my favourite skater is on their team, Daewon Song, but because they make great solid skate shoes that not only perform great but look awesome as well.

For Winter 2008 DVS doesn't disappoint. The season gives us some killer signature shoes from pros like Steve Berra, Daewon Song and Tim Gavin. Features on the new 2008 shoes include:low profile flexible cup soles, Sure-fit elastic support, split lace option and DVS patiented "Bruise control light" This feature is 3 piece constructed system to help stop your feet from sustaining damage and bruising. "Bruise control light" is the next level in bruise control systems and this technology seems to be the big new feature on the winter DVS shoes this year. Nothing like added protection while keeping you light on your feet... makes things much easier.

In this article I'm going to give a brief run down on which ones are my favourites for this winter season.

Berra 5: The Berra five series is the newest pro signature skate shoe from DVS for pro skater Steve Berra. These are really great skate shoes. They have a three piece constructed out sole. Easy fitting elastic straps, DVS special Bruise Control Light technology and of course non slip rubber gum bottoms. I would say these are some of the lightest DVS shoes made and am very impressed with them. They have so many more excellent features like reinforced ollie areas, lace protection and custom printed heel.

Daewon 10: Another awesome signature skate shoe from my favourite pro, Daewon Song. Tested and designed by Daewon himself, these new shoes are top of the line is performance and durability. Keeping you as cool and comfortable as humanly possible during your skate sessions.

As you can see DVS is on the cutting edge of skate shoe technology and I expect great things from them in the future.
